How to get web Traffic to a Website

August 12, 2019

A popular myth in creating a website is that once you publish it, traffic will automatically flow to it. If you've created a website, you've found out that is not the case. Attention on the internet is a precious commodity and getting traffic to your website can be a difficult process. Below are a few ways on how to get web traffic to a website.

Social Media Ads

It seems like these days, growing web traffic organically through social media is difficult. Most sites like Facebook and Instagram give priority to paid advertisements. If your budget includes paid advertisements on Social Media it's a great way to promote a product or service that your website.

Collaboration

Guest posting on someone's blog or collaborating on a project together can increase traffic to your website.

Create a Street Team

This tip came from podcasting expert Pat Flynn. A street team is 30-50 people who can review and help promote:

  • Podcasts
  • Books
  • YouTube channel
  • Blogs
  • Products

It's almost similar to a beta list used in product management product launches. So if you wanted to launch a new service or product to your clients, you can use the Street Team to beta test and review it before the actual release.

Communities:

Another good resource for getting web traffic to a website is using communities and groups. Relevant groups on Reddit are a great way to bring attention to your business. However, certain groups have restrictions for promotion and marketing your website.

Summary: How to Get web Traffic to a Website

In conclusion, I think all these methods fall under being able to distribute and promote content. If you have any methods that you've personally used for your website, I would love to hear from you. Thank you for reading!

Review of the Aputure A.lav

August 5, 2019

As I started to do more vlogging, I decided to pick up the Aputure A.lav. I first learned about this lav mic through D4Darious video on 5 Budget Lavalier Mics. Slowly, I began to incorporate the lav into a few vlogs on my Youtube channel. Below is my review of the Aputure A.lav

Price:

At the time I purchased the Aputure A.lav, it cost under $35. The lav comes with the following:

  • Aputure A.Lav Omnidirectional Lavalier Microphone
  • USB Charger Adapter Cable
  • Recording Adapter Cable for Mobile
  • Recording Adapter Cable for Recorder
  • Cable Winder
  • Windshield
  • Microphone Control Module
  • Duct Tape
  • Carrying Case

Additional Costs

To my surprise, the Aputure A.lav doesn't need a lot of additional accessories to get going. You could plug it into your smartphone and start recording from there. You could also plug the Aputure A.lav into an external recorder. As I was doing vlogging I decided to purchase a Microphone Adapter Cable for Cameras and hook it into my DSLR.

What You Get

One of the things I noticed when I used the Aputure A.lav was my audio was significantly better. I normally film in a room that tends to have some heavy echo, and with the lav mic I didn't notice it as much. I realize that audio might be subjective for some, but I truly like the audio that comes from this lav mic.

What You Won’t Get

The only thing I don't like about the Aputure A.lav is all of the cables that I need to manage to use it. As with most things, the more steps needed to operate it, the less likely you are to use it. There have been instances where I've lost audio because I connected the wrong cord to the wrong output.

Summary: Review of the Aputure A.lav

In conclusion, I would highly recommend the Aputure A.lav for anyone looking to get clean audio. I know the trend in video creation these days is on-camera microphones, but for the budget and ease of use, I found this lav to be amazing. I also think it makes a great investment as a backup audio recorder for interviews.

Visiting Alameda, California

July 9, 2019

Traveling has never been more popular nowadays. I enjoy picking up my camera and traveling to places I've never been to. However, I think we often neglect the areas that are local and close to home. Because I am familiar and local to the town, I decided to create a quick video about visiting Alameda, California.

About Alameda:

Alameda, California was founded in 1853 by European Americans. The town of Alameda is a small town of about 23.0 square miles. While the town is small, it is very rich in diversity and culture. Also, during the summer there are numerous festivals along Park and Webster streets.

City Information:

Alameda is located on an island seven miles east of San Francisco, and a mile west of Oakland. The city can be reached via bridges on the east end of the city, along with a tunnel on the west side of the town. Also, you can reach the city by two ferries on opposite ends of the city.

Areas filmed:

  • Alameda Theatre
  • Crown Beach
  • Harbor Bay Isle
  • Naval Air Station Alameda
  • Neptune Beach

7 Things to do When you Become a Freelancer

June 24, 2019

When I began doing freelancing there were a lot of things I wish I knew. Freelancing was always something people talked about but there isn't a guide on how to go about it when you're starting out. Below is a list of 7 things to do when you become a Freelancer.

1. Create a Website

There are legitimate reasons as to why many small businesses or freelancers shy away from building their own website. From costs ranging from domain name registration, hosting fees, and security, having a website can be expensive. Since Social Media is free it's easy to see why some freelancers might default to just being on Social Media sites.

2. Document Your Projects

One thing I regret not doing early on when going into freelance was documenting the behind the scenes of my projects. I love the series How I Work from Lifehacker because it showcases the tools and processes that many creatives and business people go through.

3. Focus on Evergreen Content

In addition to documenting your projects, I would recommend focusing on creating evergreen content. Creating content that is evergreen means it focuses on things that will always be relevant. Content such as advice, "How To" articles, Tutorials, and tips. This will be content that you can share and never gets old. Things like news, reviews or dated content do not fall into this category.

4. Find a Mentor and Network

Many of the tips that are referenced on this list I had to learn by myself and through research. However, I would have like to have had a mentor to show me the ropes of this freelance world. Networking provides another way in which your business can get clients. Word of mouth has always been something that can help when you're starting a business.

5. Invest in a CRM

Another resource I wish I knew about when I started freelancing was using a Customer Relationship Management or CRM. CRMs are helpful in that they keep your contracts, invoices, and email correspondeses with clients in one place. Among some of the good CRMs available for freelancers are:

  • Dubsado
  • HoneyBook
  • Tave

Also, some CRMs help to keep your business accountable by tracking how much income you are bringing into your business.

6. Have a Social Media Presence

I like to think of Social Media as free advertising. Primarily because most of the attention are on these sites. Some good Social Media sites to be on are:

  • Facebook
  • Instagram
  • LinkedIn
  • Twitter
  • Youtube

7. Setup a Daily Schedule

It took a while for me to adjust to the setting my own schedule as a freelancer. Coming from working at a 9 to 5pm, I found the schedule of being a freelancer to be a wake-up call. As a freelancer/entrepreneur you're in charge of marketing, production, and selling. Having a schedule helps in making sure you're giving all these tasks the time they deserve.

Summary: 7 Things to do When you Become a Freelancer

In conclusion, I think it's beneficial to have a plan in place for how you're conducting business. Whether that plan includes the tips listed above or other tips, I hope these seven things will help if you're starting out as a freelancer. To recap, the seven from this list were:

  • Create a Website
  • Document Your Projects
  • Focus on Evergreen Content
  • Find a Mentor
  • Invest in a CRM
  • Have a Social Media Presence
  • Setup a Daily Schedule

If you have any suggestions for tips that have helped you as a freelancer I would love to hear them.
