Three Great Podcasts for Your Next Road Trip

August 20, 2018

https://youtu.be/gZ81Rmp53lMI recently took a road trip to San Diego from the San Francisco Bay Area and needed something to listen to keep me sane for the long drive. Prior to my trip, I looked into what would be a few entertaining podcasts to listen to while driving. Below are my top Three Great Podcasts for your Next Road Trip.

The Rewatchables from Bill Simons

I'm a huge fan of movies, so when I found out that there was a podcast that reviewed classic films I had to listen to it immediately. From current movies like "Get Out" to classics like "Midnight Run" the Rewatchables dives into the behind the scenes of each movie. It's also interesting to hear other people's opinions of your favorite movie.

Sandra by Gimlet Media

Sandra is a scripted podcast produced by Gilmet media with Alia Shawkat, Ethan Hawke, and Kristen Wiig as cast. While Sandra is not particularly long, thirty minutes each episode, but the story keeps you hooked and paying attention. The story is enough to keep you intrigued and on the edge of your seat.

The Daily by the New York Times

The Daily is a thirty-minute podcast from the New York Times that recaps the world news of the week. I like listening to the Daily is because it presents news in a quick and entertaining way. This makes it really easy to catch up to news if you’re out of the loop.

Summary: Three Great Podcasts for your Next Road Trip

In closing, I hope you enjoyed this recommendation of three great podcasts for road trips. To recap, my top three podcasts are:

  • The Rewatchables
  • Sandra by Gimlet Media
  • The Daily

Each podcast should be available on for IOS and Android devices. Thank you for tuning into this article. Have a great day.

Canon t7i Review

July 30, 2018

[sc name="affiliate disclosure"]Since my last 77d review, I had been curious about entry-level cameras and what they have to offer. The Canon t7i was released in February 2017 and replaced the previous t6i. As the t7i is Canon's latest entry-level camera, below is my Canon t7i Review.

Canon t7i: Sample Photos:

[gallery ids="3211,3212,3205"]

Who this Product is For

I think the Canon t7i is a great camera for people who are new to photography. Especially for someone who wants a step than the camera on their cell phone. I think it is ideal for students who are new to photography or videography.

Price:

At the time of this writing the Canon t7i retails for $699.

What You Get:

A few of the features you get with the t7i are:

  • Wi-fi & Bluetooth Connectivity
  • NFC Connectivity
  • Articulating Touch Screen
  • Face Detection Focusing
  • 24.0MP - High Resolution Sensor
  • 25.600 Max ISO
  • 45 Focus Points
  • Digital video stabilization
  • 6.0fps Fast Continuous Shooting
  • Battery Life (600 shots)
  • External Microphone Port
  • Timelapse Recording
  • Selfie Friendly LCD Screen
  • Remote control with a smartphone

In addition to all these options, the t7i features helpful guides for new photographers:Canon t7i Shutter Priority Menu

What You Won’t Get

As the t7i is an entry-level camera, it is missing a lot of bells and whistles that you get from more higher priced cameras. It uses an APS-C sensor which is smaller than the sensor you would get in a full frame body. Some mirrorless competitors such as the a6300 do offer 4k video and features such as a silent shutter option.

Summary: Canon t7i Review

In conclusion, I think the t7i is an excellent choice for people who are brand new to photography or videography and are looking for their first camera. I would choose this over the 77d because there aren't a lot of differences other than the 77d's top LCD plate. Also if you pair the t7i with a lens like the 40mm f2.8, it makes a very compact travel camera.

Three Great Neighborhoods to Explore in Vancouver

July 9, 2018

https://shows.pippa.io/moderrn/three-great-neighborhoods-to-explore-in-vancouverI started traveling in 2011. One of my first places to visit was Vancouver in British Columbia. If you're ever planning on making a visit, here are three great neighborhoods to explore in Vancouver. Vancouver is located on the west coast of the country and is sort of the San Francisco of Canada.

Granville Island

I've been to Vancouver twice and one of the first spots I usually go to is Granville Island. If you're new to Vancouver you reach Granville by hopping on one of the mini ferry boats along the channel. Probably one of the highlights of Granville is its public market with its diverse shops and eateries. In addition to the public market, Granville has amazing views to take in the city of Vancouver.Granville Island

Seawall/Coal Harbour

The Sealwall/Coal Harbour area is a popular attraction among both locals and tourists. It's also a great venue for cyclist and joggers. Also, Seawall's location includes access to some of Vancouver's major ferries.Seawall

Stanley Park

Stanley Park is located conveniently by the Seawall and includes several attractions. Most noteworthy attractions in the urban park are the aquarium, beaches, and suspension bridges. One of the things I highly recommend doing is exploring Stanley Park by renting a bicycle.Exploring Stanley Park by Bike

Summary: Three Great Neighborhoods to Explore in Vancouver

In conclusion, there are many great neighborhoods to explore on your visit to Vancouver. Among other Vancouver neighborhoods which you should include on your list to visit is Yaletown, Gas Town, and the West End. I found the neighborhoods to be fairly close together allowing you to explore the city of Vancouver with ease.

Free Image Editors to Optimize Photos for Your Website

July 2, 2018

Often you probably won't need an advanced image editing tool to crop or reduce the size of your photos. While Photoshop is the king when it comes to image editing, there are several free programs that you can use to optimize images for the web. Below are a few Free Image Editors to Optimize Photos for Your Website.

MAC:

If you're using a laptop from Apple, one of the free programs that are built into the operating system is Preview. The Preview is the default program used to view images on a Mac. While it doesn't have the same advanced features found in Photoshop is remains a very capable tool to resize and crop images.Preview (MAC)

Windows:

While MAC operating systems have Preview, Windows has two notable image editors to available. These programs are FastStone and PIXresizer. Yet, unlike the Preview tool that comes included in Mac computers these apps will need to be downloaded on a PC.PIXresizer Screenshot

Multi-Platforms:

Two programs that are platform independent that also deserve a mention is Canva and ImageOptim. In addition to photo editing, Canva includes tools for logo and graph making. Although not an intensive editing program ImageOptim is great when reducing file sizes of images. ImageOptim is great because it can reduce the size of a file without affecting too much of the quality of the image.Canva Logo

Summary: Free Image Editors to Optimize Photos for Your Website

In conclusion, you don't need to rely on an advanced edtior like Photoshop to optimize images for your website. To recap, you can use the following image tools to prepare photos for your website:

  • Preview (MAC)
  • FastStone (Windows)
  • PIXresizer (Windows)
  • Canva (Online)
  • ImageOptim (MAC/Windows)

These are just a few programs to get you started. In the future, if you want to upgrade to a more advanced image editor, Adobe Photoshop is a fantastic choice.
