How to Prepare to Travel Abroad

October 21, 2019

Whenever I haven't traveled in a while, I always forget the important things I should bring when taking an international trip. Besides dealing with customs and arriving three hours before your flight, there are special considerations to factor when preparing to go abroad. Below are tips on how to prepare to travel abroad.

Confirm Travel Documents

For international travel, passports are generally required to enter a country. However, in addition to needing a passport, some countries require you to have a visa to enter the country. An example of some countries that require you to have a visa in addition to a passport are:

  • Australia
  • China
  • Nepal
  • Sri Lanka

Check out cibtvisas.com for a full list of countries that require an additional visa for international travel.

Create a Checklist

The following is a list of items I make sure to obtain when traveling:

  • Cell Phone Charger
  • Cash
  • Debit / Credit cards
  • Electrical Adapters
  • Headphones
  • Pack Medications
  • Portable charger
  • Travel Sim Card

Entertainment Media

This is usually the fun part of traveling. Most likely you're going to be stuck on an airplane for several hours. Instead of letting the airline decide what movie you're going to watch, download some shows or movies that you never got around to watching.

Additional Tips

In addition to the above, obtaining key items before an overseas trip can save a lot of time. For instance, if possible order a prepaid sim for your destination. This will help in avoiding any long lines when you reach your destination. Also, obtaining spare cash in the destination country's currency before leaving for your trip. This makes it easier in finding the best exchange rates for your funds rather than dealing with high fees at an airport.

Summary: How to Prepare to Travel Abroad

To wrap up, I think having a list to prepare can relieve a lot of anxiety when traveling abroad. It's also always helpful to have backup copies of any important travel documents just in case the originals get lost. In closing, I would love to know some of the methods that you've used when preparing for international trips?

January was a busy month for travel. I visited Honolulu for a week towards the end of January. Before my trip, I researched a couple of places I wanted to see on my visit to Oahu. One of the places I visited was the Byodo-In Temple. Below is a video recap of my Trip to the Byodo-In Temple in Hawaii.

Entrance into the Byodo-In Temple cost about $4.00 for Adults and $2.00 for Children. The temple is open daily from 8:30 am - 5:00 pm. The Temple is located in the Valley of the Temple's Cemetery towards the back of the property.

Visiting the Getty Museum

February 25, 2019

I first visited the Getty Museum 15 years ago in college. Before iPhones and digital cameras were in fashion and when you needed to have your film developed to see your photos. I created a quick video from visiting the Getty Museum in January.

Price

The Getty Museum offers free admission to the museum. Payment for parking on the property is the only fee charged on the grounds. Also, the museum is open daily from 10 am–5:30 pm and Saturday 10 am–9 pm but closed on Monday.

What You Get

In addition to the stunning views of Los Angeles, you can forget that the Getty is an actual museum. The Getty has a number of collections on display throughout the four pavilions. Towards the rear of the property, sits the central garden of the Getty.

Summary: Visiting the Getty Museum

In conclusion, if you're visiting Los Angeles visiting the Getty Museum should be high on your list. I'm a huge fan of architecture so this visit made me appreciate this museum. Also, the city of Westwood is nearby and makes for an excellent stopover for restaurants and shopping.

Four Great Spots to See in Lassen Volcanic National Park

December 19, 2018

Towards the end of this summer, I choose to visit Lassen Volcanic National Park. Lassen is located 130 miles north of Sacramento and 47 miles east of Redding. Below are four great spots to see in Lassen Volcanic National Park:

Lassen Gallery

Lake Helen

Lake Helen is a gigantic 8,200 feet lake located to the south of Lassen Peak. One of the things you'll notice about the lake is the vibrant colors that appear in the water.

Manzanita Lake

Manzanita Lake is located towards the north entrance of Lassen. Also around the area is a campground, museum, and picnic tables. In addition to the scenic view of the lake allows for fishing, kayaking, and hiking.

Kings Creek Trail

If there is one trail to take on your visit to Lassen it would have to be Kings Creek Trail. The trail is about three miles or close to two hours round trip. One of the features of this trail offers a waterfall overlook.

Sulphur Works

If you choose to enter the park on the south entrance you will be close to the thermal pits of Lassen. The thermal pits are a unique sight to behold. It will take some time to get used to the order of Sulphur Works, as the pit gives off a rotten egg type of smell.

In conclusion, I found Lassen National Park feels the perfect getaway from the city life. It might be because Yosemite is nearby and gets most of the attention from tourist and visitors that Lassen seems like a hidden gem.
