Use Dropbox to Send Content and Images to Your Web Designer

February 5, 2018

During the beginning of a web design project you will need to send content and images to your web designer. To limit any delays in completing a website it's best to send these files at the beginning of the website creation. There are many ways to send content to your web designer such as Email, Google Drive. One useful way I have found is to use Dropbox to send content and images to your Web Designer.

Use Dropbox to Send Content and Images to Your Web Designer

Dropbox is a great tool in providing contents to send images to your Web Developer. A Dropbox Basic account is free and includes 2 GB of space. This should be more than enough for uploading text and photo files for your Web Developer to use.

Organize Content Based On Website Planning

Normally you will have a consultation with your web designer. During this consultation for the planning of your website you will probably decide on the page structure of your website. For instance, page structure for a Copy Writer's website may look something like this:

  • About
  • Contact
  • Home
  • Projects

Once you have an idea of the page structure of the website, you can organize and name your photos. Many websites follow a pattern of using a photo of yourself and possibly an optional background photo. I think the best way is to name each photo with the page title in mind. For example:About Page

  • About_ProfilePhoto.jpg
  • About_BackgroundPhoto.jpg

Contact Page

  • Contact_Photo.jpg

Home Page

  • Homepage_Photo.jpg
  • Homepage_BackgroundPhoto.jpg

Project Page

  • ABCCompany_Project_Photo.jpg
  • ABCCompany_Project_AdditionalPhoto

Organizing Page Content

Similar to how we organize the photos above, we can use a similar strategy for the web site pages. It's best to keep the photos and page content separate for faster implementation into the website. A great tool to use is Microsoft Word and create separate document pages for each Web Page:About.doc

  • Details About Yourself
  • Background

Contact.doc

  • Contact Details
  • Email Details
  • Phone Details
  • Optional: Address Information for Stores, Services

HomePage.doc

  • Homepage Details

Project.doc

  • Description of Each Project

Uploading to DropBox

You can use the following steps to upload to DropBox

  • Sign in to the Dropbox website.
  • Create a Folder Name for Your Project, example: WebsiteContent
  • Click the Upload button at the top of the window.
  • A window will appear. Click the Choose File button and then select the file on your computer that you'd like to add to your Dropbox.
  • Choose as many files as you like, and then click the Start Upload button.

After the upload has been completed, you can then share the Folder Name with your Web Designer.

Summary

In conclusion, this is just a sample of how to use Dropbox to send content to your Web Designer. The naming convention will change depending on the type of website you want. The content organization of an e-commerce website may look drastically different. A service type website may include a Services page instead of a Projects page. I hopefully the above gives you insight on how to use dropbox to send content and images to your Web Designer. Connect with me to get started on building your website. Thank you for visiting!

Following then Unfollowing Someone on Instagram

January 31, 2018

I happened upon Jade Darmawangsa (@jadedarmawangsa) vlog on Youtube concerning the dreaded follow than unfollow trend. If you're new to this social media trend, I think it primarily started on Instagram. Everyone wants to have tons of followers because it's seen as a status symbol. I have also heard this tactic now being used on other Social Media platforms, namely Youtube & Twitter. I suggest giving her video a watch why you should stop Following then Unfollowing someone on Instagram:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUaKdEryVEQ

Why You Should Stop Following then Unfollowing Someone on Instagram

I have listed some of the reasons you should stop this trend now:

  • One: Following then Unfollowing Someone on Instagram is rude.
  • Two: You're not getting meaningful followers
  • Three: Everyone now has an app that tracks who Follows than Unfollows you

Personally, when I find out someone has followed me and then unfollowed me, I look at that person in a negative light. Following then Unfollowing Someone on Instagram was a lot easier to get away with before Unfollower apps were made available.

Collaborating as a Solution

One of the things Jade Darmawangsa recommends is collaborating with fellow Instagrammers. This means reaching out to someone you want to collaborate with on Instagram by direct messaging them. There will be a percentage that won't respond to your DM. However, the ones that do will be great to engage with.

Summary

Following then Unfollowing Someone on Instagram is a bit like "Ghosting" in dating. People that do it, don't like to admit they do it because they know it's bad. Everyone knows it's rude but people still do it because it's easy. After all, they are just after followers and they use this tactic as an easy solution.

Review of the Nikon D500

January 29, 2018

[sc name="affiliate disclosure"]I normally shoot with a mix of Canon and Sony Cameras. While I enjoy shooting with these brands, I am always looking to expand my horizons. Because haven't taken photos using Nikon Cameras, I decided to test out one of their newest cameras. As a result, here is my review of the Nikon D500. Released in January of 2016, the Nikon D500 is the company's update to the previous D300.

Price

At the time of this writing the Nikon D500 costs $1,896.95. It's dimensions are 147 x 115 x 81mm and weighs 860g.

Sample Photos

Here are a few photos I took with the Nikon D500:[gallery ids="1275,1276"]

What You Get

With the Nikon D500 you get a high performance camera. Here are some of the features you get with the Nikon D500:

  • 4K Video
  • Bluetooth Connectivity
  • Illuminated Buttons
  • Long Battery Life: 1240 shots
  • Number of Focus Points: 153
  • Number of Cross Type Focus Points: 99
  • NFC Connection
  • Max ISO: 51.200
  • Max Shutter Speed: 1/8000
  • Two Card Slots
  • WiFi

In addition to these features, the D500 is one of the newest Nikon cameras that work with their Snapbridge app. As an app, SnapBridge has many mixed reviews. When I tested SnapBridge I found that it worked well. One feature I enjoyed was being able to automatically download images to my phone as I take photos. I think this would be extremely useful for photojournalist or event photographers.

What You Won’t Get

There are a few features missing from the Nikon D500 that you get in similar cameras of the price range:

  • A Built-in Flash
  • A Full Frame Sensor
  • GPS

The Nikon D500 is also heavier than it's competitors at the price range weighing at 860g.Most of all, the Nikon D500 is heavier than Nikon's Full Frame Camera the D750.One item I did not enjoy on the Nikon D500 was the mode dial:[gallery columns="1" size="medium" ids="1266"]This mode dial makes it very complicated to switch to Aperture, Priority, and Shutter modes. Using this dial, I needed to select the "MODE" button, than turn a dial to select Aperture, Priority, and Shutter modes. In addition, Nikon's "Quiet Shutter" mode is still notoriously noisy. If you are taking landscape photos this may not be an issue but with event photography be aware that this the shutter sound is noticeable.

Summary: My Review of the Nikon D500

In conclusion, I liked the Nikon D500. The main issue I had with the camera were the Mode dial and ergonomics. Although I got amazing photos out of the Nikon D500, I thought the ergonomics were a distraction. I did love how fast the shutter was on camera. If I needed a camera for action sports I would definitely pickup the Nikon D500. To conclude my review of the Nikon D500, if you're looking for a fast camera for action sports you will enjoy the D500. However, you may be satisfied with a cheaper alternative like the Nikon D7500 if your work doesn't require sports or action photography.[tg_divider style="normal"]

Skyline Collection in Roppongi, Tokyo Japan

January 26, 2018

Since writing my recent blog post on Three Great Items For Your Next Trip to Japan, it made me think of the photos I took on Japan. After looking through my photos last year, I came across this photo I took from last year. During my trip to Japan last year, I happened upon an exhibit in Roppongi, Tokyo. I took this photo of a Nissan GTR at the Skyline Collection in Roppongi, Tokyo Japan. On my trip, I brought with me the Sony a7R II to take photos. The Sony a7R II makes for a great travel camera because of its size.

Roppongi, Tokyo Japan

If you're ever in Tokyo I would recommend stopping in Roppongi. Everyone usually comes to Roppongi for the views a top Midtown Tower, but Roppongi has enough attractions to get you to stay for a bit. Among a few are:

  • Fujifilm Square
  • Mori Art Museum
  • The National Art Center
  • Tokyo Midtown
