Top 3 Spots to Visit in Yosemite

December 11, 2017

Last October I decided to travel to Yosemite for the first time. Yosemite had been on my travel bucket list for some time now. It's a national park that is extremely popular and has some of the best views I have seen. I had no idea how gigantic and massive Yosemite is. I gathered a list of the Top 3 Spots to Visit in Yosemite for new visitors.

Glacier Point

I would point new visitors to start their Yosemite trip to Glacier Point. The Glacier Point overlook sits upon the highest peak of Yosemite. From the overlook, you can see amazing views of Yosemite Valley, Half Dome, and Yosemite Falls. Also, the road leading to Glacier Point is among one of the most scenic roads I have driven upon.

Yosemite Valley

Yosemite Valley is the next spot I'd recommend and fortunately, it's not hard to miss. You'll notice the lines of cars and tour buses along the main road, each parking to take in the Valley's surrounding. Yosemite Valley is what most people think of about Yosemite. You probably have seen sites like Bridal falls and Half Dome on people's Instagram.

Tioga Pass Road

Tioga Pass Road is the perfect spot in Yosemite to get away from the touristy crowded areas. This road is a long drive but you do have various stops along the way. From alpine lakes, granite peaks, and vast meadows. Among some of the areas to check out are Olmsted Point and the gorgeous Tenaya Lake.

Top 3 Spots to Visit in Yosemite: Conclusion

In summary, Yosemite is a massive majestic park. I would recommend finding lodging as close to possible near the park. You can stay at a campsite or find lodgings nearby but make sure to reserve in advance. You will never run out of sites to check out in the park. Pack a good camera, some coffee, and enjoy a great time in Yosemite.

The 2017 San Francisco Auto Show

December 3, 2017

I am a huge fan of cars and car shows. Throughout the year, there are several car shows that are held throughout the country and also internationally. As a Bay Area local I am always excited when the San Francisco Auto Show comes to town. The 2017 San Francisco Auto Show allows attendees to browse over 100 cars & SUVs from over 30 different manufacturers. Attendees can browse the insides and outsides of the new vehicles and explore many of the new features.

Price of The 2017 San Francisco Auto Show

Ticket prices to the San Francisco Auto Show cost $10 for that particular day. This ticket will get you access to most of the cars on display in the exhibit. Typically, the San Francisco Auto Show is scheduled towards the last week of November around the Thanksgiving Holiday. This year, the event was held from November 18th - 26th at the San Francisco Moscone Center. On average, the hours for the show are between 10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.

What You Get

With your ticket to the San Francisco Auto Show, you gain access to several vehicles from popular car manufacturers. These manufacturers include Acura, Audi, BMW, Ford, Land Rover, Honda, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota and many more. Several of these manufacturers also hold test drives for their new cars. I signed up for a test drive for Land Rover fairly easily on the day I attended the show. During the test drives, attendees can function as the driver or opt to be the passenger during the duration of the drive.

What You Won’t Get

Some things that you won't get at the San Francisco Auto Show are somewhat positive. For instance, when people tend to think of car shows they tend to think of pushy car salesmen who will do anything to get you to buy a car. Luckily this isn't the case with these types of auto shows. If anything auto shows such as these are more marketing and informational related. Another negative is that some of the exotic car models tend to be off-limits to attendees. For example, at Porsche's exhibit access was unavailable to their car lineup.

Final Thoughts

In conclusion, the San Francisco Auto Show is an amazing event to attend. In addition to the available cars and test drives, manufacturers hold games and prizes for attendees to win. Whether you are planning on buying a car now or in the future, your time will be well spent. I look forward to attending next years San Francisco Auto Show.

3 Gifts Under $50 for the Photographer in your Life

November 20, 2017

Since the Holidays are around the corner, many people are out shopping for Christmas gifts for their friends and family. Because cameras as a gift are expensive, it might be a challenge to find what to get them. But there are some great inexpensive gift ideas for them. These items may not be exciting on the surface but they are extremely useful for photographers. Below are 3 gifts under $50 for the Photographer in your life in three categories.

3 Gifts Under $50 for the Photographer in your Life:

  • Additional Batteries
  • Memory Cards
  • Travel Tripods

Additional Batteries

Because battery life varies from camera to camera you can never have enough spare batteries available. An alternative idea is to care a spare battery pack to charge all your electronic devices. However, using a spare battery pack does take time to recharge your camera battery. Having a fully charged spare battery available means less downtime for your camera.

Memory Cards

As a photography enthusiast, I found that you can never have enough memory cards. You can keep an extra memory card in your wallet or backpack if you leave your memory card at home. The SanDisk Extreme Pro 64GB is an affordable memory card that is very reliable.

Travel Tripods

A travel tripod makes a great gift. Travel tripods are usually small and lightweight compared to most tripods. In my opinion the Pedco UltraPod II Lightweight Tripod makes an excellent choice. It's small, lightweight, and flexible. The Velcro strap allows the Pedco UltraPod II Lightweight Tripod to be attached to a variety of surfaces. In conclusion, there are many affordable gift options to choose from for photographers. Hopefully, the above items give you a general idea of options to choose from. And if you're a photographer yourself you can treat yourself to some of the gifts above.
