Canon t7i Review

July 30, 2018

[sc name="affiliate disclosure"]Since my last 77d review, I had been curious about entry-level cameras and what they have to offer. The Canon t7i was released in February 2017 and replaced the previous t6i. As the t7i is Canon's latest entry-level camera, below is my Canon t7i Review.

Canon t7i: Sample Photos:

Who this Product is For

I think the Canon t7i is a great camera for people who are new to photography. Especially for someone who wants a step than the camera on their cell phone. I think it is ideal for students who are new to photography or videography.

Price:

At the time of this writing the Canon t7i retails for $699.

What You Get:

A few of the features you get with the t7i are:

  • Wi-fi & Bluetooth Connectivity
  • NFC Connectivity
  • Articulating Touch Screen
  • Face Detection Focusing
  • 24.0MP - High Resolution Sensor
  • 25.600 Max ISO
  • 45 Focus Points
  • Digital video stabilization
  • 6.0fps Fast Continuous Shooting
  • Battery Life (600 shots)
  • External Microphone Port
  • Timelapse Recording
  • Selfie Friendly LCD Screen
  • Remote control with a smartphone

In addition to all these options, the t7i features helpful guides for new photographers:Canon t7i Shutter Priority Menu

What You Won’t Get

As the t7i is an entry-level camera, it is missing a lot of bells and whistles that you get from more higher priced cameras. It uses an APS-C sensor which is smaller than the sensor you would get in a full frame body. Some mirrorless competitors such as the a6300 do offer 4k video and features such as a silent shutter option.

Summary: Canon t7i Review

In conclusion, I think the t7i is an excellent choice for people who are brand new to photography or videography and are looking for their first camera. I would choose this over the 77d because there aren't a lot of differences other than the 77d's top LCD plate. Also if you pair the t7i with a lens like the 40mm f2.8, it makes a very compact travel camera.

Why I am a Huge Fan of the Cascable App

June 11, 2018

I recently began using the Sony A7iii and one of the issues I had was the lack of an intervalometer. There are a few workarounds for this issue that primarily use video and not actual photos. Below is why I am a huge fan of the Cascable App which provides a solution for the missing intervalometer.Cascable Screen View

Who this Product is For

If you're a Sony user the Cascable app is great to invest in. This is primarily because many Sony cameras lack an intervalometer to create timelapases. In addition to Sony, Cascable also work with other camera brands such as Canon, Nikon, Fujifilm, and Panasonic. As long as you have an internet connection Cascable should work for your camera.

Price & Length

At the time of this writing, Cascable offers a free and paid version for their app. The paid version of this app is priced at $24.

What You Get

The reason why I choose to invest in Cascable is because of the intervalometer feature. However, Cascable also has several other features:

  • Powerful Geotagging Tools
  • Automating Complicated Shots
  • Night Mode
  • Photo Review
  • Focus Peaking
  • View Raw Files

Most noteworthy among the features is being able to control the Aperture, ISO, and Shutter from the app.

What You Won’t Get

One issue I found with Cascable had to do with difficulty connecting the app to the camera. In future iterations of the app design, I hope Cascable can make it easier to connect to the camera.I would also like to see a video mode incorporated into the app so that you can remote trigger video from the app.

Summary: Why I am a Huge Fan of the Cascable App

In conclusion, I liked Cascable so much that I use it regularly with my Sony cameras. I do wish Sony would implement a firmware solution for this issue but as of now if you're looking for a intervalometer solution for the Sony A7iii Cascable is a great option.

Sony RX100 III Review

May 14, 2018

[sc name="affiliate disclosure"]I always hear that the perfect camera is the one you always have with you. Several years ago I began a search for a camera that would be really light and easy to carry while I traveled. The Sony RX100 III is small enough to fit in a pants pocket, so it is convenient enough to carry around without a bag or backpack. Below is my Sony RX100 III Review.

Sample Images

[gallery columns="4" ids="2362,2363,2364,2365,2366,2367,2368,2369"]

Who this Product is For

I think the Sony RX100 III is great for the beginner who wants a small pocketable camera and doesn't want to deal a DSLR or cameras requiring lenses. In a previous article I wrote on taking great vacation photos, I recommended the Sony RX100 line of cameras. Because of the Sony RX100 III size, it makes a perfect option for someone who wants a camera that is an upgrade from their phone.

Price

Amazon.com currently lists the Sony RX100 III for $749. However, since the Sony RX100 III was released four years ago there are more affordable options available on the used market. On the used market I have seen prices as low as $499 for the Sony RX100 III.

What You Get

  • 20MP" BSI-CMOS Sensor

  • ISO 125 - 12800

  • 24-70 mm F1.8-2.8 Zoom Lens

  • Optical Image Stabilization

  • 3″ Tilting Screen

  • 10 fps continuous shooting

  • 1920 x 1080 video resolution

  • 120 fps High-Speed Video

  • Built-in Wireless

  • Weight: 290g

  • Battery Life: 320 SHOTS

What You Won’t Get

Because the Sony RX100 III was released four years ago, it is missing some technological features that are present in today's cameras. While the Sony RX100 III records great video, it lacks 4K video capabilities. Since 4K Video is a feature many consumers look for now in a camera this is a drawback for the Sony RX100 III.

Summary: Sony RX100 III Review

In conclusion, if you're looking for an affordable point and shoot camera for traveling or "vlogging", the Sony RX100 III is a great fit. Whether you decide to pick up the Sony RX100 III a new or used it is a great option if you are looking to travel light.
