Fujifilm X-T4 Impressions

September 23, 2020

A few weeks ago, I rented the much talked about Fujifilm X-T4. Although I was not able to analyze every feature in the new X-T4, I thought I would share some of my impressions of this camera. The following article is my review of the Fujifilm X-T4.

Sample Images:

What really drew me to the X-T4 was the introduction of the flip-out screen. The fully articulated screen on the Fujifilm X-T4 is a new addition for the X-series line of cameras. Also, perhaps its the hipster in me, but I just love how Fuji designs there cameras. It reminds me of those vintage film SLR cameras from back in the day. Below are a few sample photos I took from the Fujifilm X-T4.

What You Get:

Some of my favorite features of this camera were:

  •  4k, 10 Bit Recording Modes from 24p - 60p

  • Full HD Recording Modes from 24p - 240p.

  • Outstanding Image Stabilization with static Shots.

  • Face Detection is fast and really sharp

  • Dedicated button for taking HDR photos.

  • Timecode that shows you how much time video you have left to record on the camera card (20:00, 15:00)

  • Improved battery life from previous versions.

  • Continuous Shooting at 15fps

The first thing I noticed about the xt4 was the small camera feel. Even with the zoom lens that I rented along with the camera, the body itself felt really small to me. This is really a plus if you enjoy small discreet cameras.

Another standout to me was the image stabilization in the camera. There was some wobbling in the corners of the image, but I didn't find it too distracting.

Cons:

A few of the negatives regarding the camera:

  • Shutter Sound is under whelhming / weak

    • It’s a a positive if you enjoy shooting in silent mode, but you want a shutter that has a little bit of sound to it.

  • No custom dial modes (C1, C2, C3)

  • Wobbly stabilization on edges

  • Intervalometer only in Photo Mode. Not in video

  • One of the drawbacks of the Fuji cameras are there lack of third party lenses. There are several adapters that you can use but I would like to see more manufacturers like sigma, Tamron make lenses for this mount

  • Occasionally, I noticed some missing video files.

    • Possibly due to me not formatting my card for this camera

Summary:

In conclusion, I think the Fuji X-t4 will make the perfect travel camera. The number of features packed inside this camera makes it flexible to carry on long trips. Overall I thought the Fuji X-T4 was a joy to shoot with. Especially if you’re looking for not only a great photo camera but an outstanding video camera as well.
