Visiting the Petersen Automotive Museum

April 2, 2019

Visiting the Petersen Automotive Museum has been on my list of places to see for a while. The Petersen Museum was first founded in 1994 by Robert and Margie Petersen. The Museum offers three floors of vehicle exhibits. Among some of the cars on display are:

  • Cars of Film and Television
  • Japanese Supercars
  • Porsche 911 Collection
  • And Much More

Price:

Admission into the Petersen Museum is $16.00 for adults, $14.00 for seniors, and $11.00 for children. The museum is open between 10 am to 6pm.

Summary: Visiting the Petersen Automotive Museum

In conclusion, if you're visiting Los Angeles and you're a fan of cars, I would highly recommend stopping by the Petersen Museum. Also, if you're a fan of cars in film, the Museum has a section called the Vault that is filled with rare cars, and vehicles used in movies. The Petersen is conveniently located on Museum Row so you can also check out other museums in the area.

How to Prioritize Your Tasks as a Freelancer

April 1, 2019

What should come first is the question I often ask myself when I'm focused on being productive. Below are a few ways on how to prioritize your tasks as a freelancer.

Important vs Urgent

Things that are customer facing tend to fall under the Urgent category. One thing I learned working in technical support, is that if a website is down it upstages everything else. Instagram recently was unavailable for almost an entire day and sent many of its users into a panic. These types of issues are considered urgent.

Deadlines

For client projects, deadlines become a huge factor in deciding what I should work on next. These tend to follow the Important vs Urgent pattern. A project due in two days has more urgency than something that is due in a week. I think everyone wants a service or product to arrive to them as soon as possible. I think establishing a process for your freelance services will dictate how fast your service can be completed. From there you could implement rush fees if a client needs a service for a quick turnaround.

Admin Tasks

I typically leave administrative tasks for slow days. However, these tasks are still an important part of any business. Even though they are on the lower end compared to other tasks.

  • Branding
  • Marketing
  • Website Maintenance

Summary: How to Prioritize Your Tasks as a Freelancer

In conclusion, these are just a few factors to consider when prioritizing your tasks as a freelancer. Whether you work as a freelancer or for a company being able to prioritize your work tasks will help in making you very productive.

How to Manage Your Social Media

March 25, 2019

If you're a freelancer or entrepreneur Social Media can be very useful in marketing your product or services. Because the majority of people go directly to sites such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, Social Media draws a lot of attention. As there are so many Social Media sites it can be an ordeal just to manage them all. Below are three useful apps on how to manage your Social Media.

  • Buffer
  • CoSchedule
  • Crowdfire

Buffer

Buffer is my go-to app by choice for managing Social Media. This is primarily because of ease of use and Buffers ability to share videos on the basic plan. I also think out of all the scheduling apps it is relatively simple to use.

CoSchedule

Compared to apps like Buffer and Crowdfire, CoSchedule's premium plans are more expensive in comparison. Because of it's high price tag, I think CoSchedule is good for medium to large size businesses.

Crowdfire

I think Crowdfire is a great app for those just starting out marketing and sharing on Social Media. It's especially great if you're in a niche area as it provides content articles related to your niche to share on sites like Facebook, Linkedin, and Twitter.

Summary: How to Manage Your Social Media

In conclusion, using automation apps to manage your Social Media accounts can be very productive for your businesses. If you're a freelancer or solo entrepreneur, scheduling apps allow you to be more productive in other areas of your business. However, I would advise against using bots to manage your social media accounts.

How to Set Up a Freelance Schedule

March 18, 2019

When I first began freelancing I had a few growing pains getting used to the schedule. As a freelancer, you now have tons of freedom. However, even though I had more time on my hands, the time between an old project and new project would often drag out. I decided that even though I enjoy the freedom freelancing gives you, I needed to create a schedule for my work week. Below is my guide on how to set up a freelance schedule.

Batch Scheduling:

I like to do batch scheduling which is to set a specific day of the week to accomplish a task. Here is an example:

  • Monday: Social Media Planning
  • Tuesday & Friday: Client Consultation
  • Wednesday & Thursday: Project Work

By setting up specific days for tasks I can be flexible and move days around depending on my workload.

Sprint Implementation

I previously worked for a software company. One of the things that I learned there was the Agile Methodology and the use of Sprints. A sprint is a short, time-boxed period to complete a set amount of work. Duration for a Sprint is under a month but usually two - one week.I like Sprints because they allow you to set up a structure of what to accomplish in a set amount of time. Being a freelancer can be overwhelming sometimes as there is always something you want to accomplish. However, organizing a set amount of work and establishing a backlog in the future will help in relieving that stressful workload.

Summary: How to Set Up a Freelance Schedule

In conclusion, organizing my freelance schedule made me a lot more productive. Freelancing provides a great deal of freedom. However, having a schedule each month provides a way to track my goals and accountability.
